Retirement planning

Most retirement plans fail at the seams — where the pension meets Social Security meets the 403(b) meets the tax return. That’s the part we actually work on.

What “planning” means here

Not a glossy binder you never open. A working picture of your income, your risks, and the order in which money should move — written in language you’d use yourself.

1. Inventory

Every income source, account, and obligation in one place: pension or PERS benefit, Social Security estimate, 403(b)/IRA balances, pensions from prior employers, mortgage, and any care obligations.

2. Stress-test

What happens to the plan if the market drops 30% in year two of retirement? If you live to 95? If your spouse needs care for three years? We model the uncomfortable cases before they happen.

3. Sequence

Which account gets drawn first, when to claim Social Security, when Roth conversions make sense, and how the pension survivor election interacts with all of it.

4. Write it down

You leave with a plain-English summary you can reread at home and share with your spouse or your kids.

The questions we actually answer

  • When can I retire without running out of money?
  • Should I take the PERS lump sum or the monthly benefit?
  • When should I claim Social Security — and does the pension change that answer?
  • How do I sell a business without handing a third of the proceeds to the IRS?
  • What do I do with my RSUs and stock options — sell now or later?
  • How much of my income is guaranteed, and how much depends on the market?
  • What happens to my spouse’s income if I go first?
  • How do I pay for care later without draining everything I saved?

Bring your pension or PERS statement, your Social Security estimate, and recent statements for any other accounts. If you don’t have them all yet, we can start without them and fill in the gaps.
